Press Release

  • FMA COMMENDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF PAY RAISE FOR FEDERAL EMPLOYEES - January 30, 2019
  • Alexandria, VA – On Wednesday, January 30, the House of Representatives passed the Federal Civilian Workforce Pay Raise Fairness Act of 2019 (H.R. 790), which would provide a 2.6 percent pay raise to federal employees in 2019. The measure passed by a vote of 259-161. Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Renee Johnson made the following comments on the passage of the legislation:

“I am grateful the House of Representatives considered and passed this important legislation to provide a much-deserved 2.6 percent pay raise to the federal workforce for calendar year 2019. This action addresses the inequity federal employees faced in recent years due to pay freezes and minimal raises.

“The federal workforce ensures the safety of our borders, protects the nation’s food supply, cares for our elderly and veterans, and serves alongside our military forces. H.R. 790 recognizes the federal workforce for its dedication to serving our country at home and abroad. This bill will help to combat the problem of morale, recruitment, and retention in the federal government, particularly in the aftermath of the partial government shutdown.

“As the federal government continues to struggle with these issues, this bill is a step towards offering competitive salaries, attracting and keeping the brightest and best to the federal workforce. By calling for wages that fairly compensate the abilities and responsibilities of the federal workforce, H.R. 790 recognizes the need to ensure a fully engaged federal workforce that remains dedicated to serving the nation. I urge the Senate to take up and pass this important bill.”
