Press Release

  • FMA EXPRESSES DISTRESS AT DOD PROPOSAL TO ELIMINATE CIVILIAN PENSIONS FOR MILITARY RETIREES - August 5, 2013
  • Alexandria, VA – The Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President, Patricia Niehaus, released the following statement in response to proposals included in the recent Department of Defense (DOD) “Strategic Choices and Management Review.”

"While FMA understands DOD and all federal agencies face extraordinary, unprecedented budget decisions related to complying with sequestration, it is distressing to know DOD, the largest employer of veterans, is considering actions that effectively punish military retirees for continuing to serve their country by eliminating civilian employee pensions for military retirees who enter federal civilian service after serving in the military. These men and women have spent a lifetime defending our country and their expertise and knowledge is unparalleled and invaluable for the continued success of the mission. No federal civilian employee should ever be penalized for having served in the U.S. military. FMA urges DOD to consider and pursue all other alternatives and urges Congress to eliminate sequestration."
