Press Release

  • REPRESENTATIVE GERRY CONNOLLY TO KEYNOTE FMA NATIONAL CONVENTION - March 10, 2017
  • Alexandria, VA - The Federal Managers Association (FMA) will hold its 79th annual National Convention and Management Training Seminar March 13 - 15, 2017, at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center in Alexandria, Virginia. The conference, Federal Managers: Leading in Complex and Uncertain Times, will feature a keynote address by Representative Gerry Connolly (D-VA) on Tuesday morning, who will speak to a joint audience of both FMA members and representatives from the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association (NARFE). A full day of unparalleled federal managerial training will follow Representative Connolly's speech, all of which the press is welcome to attend.

On Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 8:00 am, Representative Connolly will give a keynote address that examines the legislative landscape and talks about federal managers' important role of leading in the face of uncertainty. Representative Connolly is the Ranking Member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee on Government Operations and is a strong supporter of all federal employees and annuitants. He is leading an effort to provide a reasonable pay raise to federal employees as sponsor of the Federal Adjustment of Income Rates (FAIR) Act (H.R. 757). He was an original cosponsor of the Wounded Warriors Federal Leave Act, which took effect in November 2016.

Following Mr. Connolly's address, FMA's management training seminar will focus on topics including: a discussion on volatility, ambiguity, complexity, and uncertainty in the workplace; real-world strategies for managing budgets, leveraging technology, and navigating regulations; making better places to work; and, a leadership effectiveness exchange workshop. The presentations promise to be useful and practical for all federal managers and supervisors, and the speakers look forward to a healthy exchange of ideas and questions from training day delegates. Additionally, FMA's Manager of the Year Award, as well as other top honors, will be announced at the Awards Luncheon, featuring special guest Mike Causey, the host of Your Turn on Federal News Radio.
