Federal Managers Association

Press Release

  • FMA COMMENDS CONGRESS ON PREVENTING A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN – December 3, 2021
  • Alexandria, VA – On December 2, the House and Senate passed a continuing resolution (CR) that funds the federal government through February 18, 2022, and averts a government shutdown. The House passed the measure by a vote of 221-212, while the Senate approved it by a 69-28 margin. Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Craig Carter made the following statement in response to its passage:

“The Federal Managers Association is relieved the House and Senate approved this continuing resolution to prevent a harmful government shutdown. It will keep America’s hard working federal employees on the job, ensuring Americans will continue to receive the vital services they provide through February 18, 2022. While we supported this short-term Band-Aid, CRs hinder the ability of the government and the military to plan for the fiscal year ahead. As I said yesterday, the total cost to taxpayers and the government as a result of the uncertainty from any CR is reliably in the billions of dollars.

“We continue to urge both houses of Congress to return to regular order in carrying out their Article 1, Section 8, duty of passing all twelve appropriations bills in a timely manner going forward. Fully funding Fiscal Year 2022 is critical to enabling federal workers and agencies to carry out their crucial missions on behalf of the American people.”
