  • Telework is a work in progress

    The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) published a report recently on the use of telework within federal agencies. Telework can reduce costs within government, promote efficiency, and improve employee morale. The report, "Status of Telework in the Federal Government," however, shows that while 32 percent of the federal workforce is eligible for telework, only 25 percent of those able take advantage of the opportunity. The report touched upon the fact that not all managers are comfortable with telework. Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Patricia Niehaus added resistance to telework is found in the lack of training stating, "Both managers and employees need to be trained on how to handle assignments and accountability under telework."
