    While many federal employees have seen their contributions to their retirement benefits rise over past years, Representatives Darrell Issa (R-CA) and Paul Ryan (R-WI) requested the Congressional Budget Office to evaluate the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS) to see where financial cuts can be made in the hopes of deficit reduction. In their request, they called upon CBO to examine possible adjustments such as expanding the defined contribution aspect of FERS while reducing defined benefit.
