  • Continuing resolution or omnibus? Decision looms for Congress as holidays approach

    Members of Congress have eight legislative days to develop and vote on a budget plan before the current one expires on December 11. Congress could either pass another continuing resolution that would allow for, yet again, short term spending plans, or an omnibus that would combine a dozen appropriation bills to provide funding levels. However, with the limited amount of time, the possibility of another government shutdown looms. The Federal Managers Association (FMA) Government Affairs Representative Katie Maddocks warned against another shutdown commenting, "When that happened last time, too much was at stake. Our economy suffered greatly. We cannot let that happen again." She further added, "No one in the federal workforce wants to start the holiday season with a government shutdown."
