• FMA NATIONAL PRESIDENT RESPONDS TO PROPOSED CUTS TO FEDS’ BENEFITS - February 13, 2012

• Budget request includes TRICARE cut, military retirement details

  President Barack Obama released his FY13 budget request on February 13. In his proposal, those enrolled in TRICARE would be seeing new copays and fees. Military personnel will, however, be seeing a pay raise and freezes will not take place. The Administration has stated personnel reforms being requested are evenly distributed between the civilian and military workforces.

  However, Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Patricia Niehaus disagreed, and stated, "By including a 1.7 percent increase in pay for military members in the budget request, President Obama is following in the footsteps of his predecessor and ignoring over two decades of legislative precedent by proposing unequal pay raises for military and civilian federal employees. Civil servants and their military counterparts often work side-by-side to ensure the safety of our country. We ask the President to reconsider his decision to provide civilian and military employees disparate raises.”
