Travel Logistics:
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) is the closest major airport 71 miles from Shelton.
Drive time is about 1 hour 21 minutes. Recommend that we coordinate rental cars and can provide pickup and drop off for a limited number of travellers using our seven passenger van.
For those travelling on a budget, we can accommodate up to eight people at the Stamper’s vacation house on Harstine Island. Camping is also avaialble at Jarrell’s Cove State Park.
Speaker Bios:
Norbert Majerus
Beginning in 2005, Norbert implemented a principles-based lean product development process at the three Global Innovation Centers of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company. For more than a decade he was Goodyear’s lean champion in research and development. Norbert, born and raised in Luxembourg, has a Master’s degree in Chemistry from the Universitaet des Saarlandes, Saarbruecken, Germany. He joined Goodyear in Luxembourg in 1978, transferred to Akron in 1983, and has worked most disciplines in the Goodyear innovation centers in Luxembourg and Akron. In 2016, Norbert published his first book, Lean-Driven Innovation (Norbert Majerus, CRC Press, 2016), which received the Shingo Research Award. Also in 2016, with Norbert’s guidance the Goodyear R&D organization applied for and received the AME Excellence Award. Norbert is a popular keynote speaker and has conducted workshops in the United States and many other countries. Since retiring from Goodyear in 2018, he continues to share his extensive lean expertise via Norbert Majerus Consulting.
Jim States
Dr. States has extensive experience climbing at high altitude, including expeditions to South America, Mt McKinley, Nanda Devi, Makalu & Everest. Since 2011 he has sailed 20,000 nautical miles in a 24’ Pacific Seacraft on BC Coast to Alaska. He brings his expedition & austere medicine experience into his work in Disaster Preparedness for Mason & Kitsap counties. He applies the lessons of energy utilization & conservation necessary for sailing & high altitude climbing to Disaster Readiness where resources are limited. Prior to retirement, he was dual board certified in Family Medicine & Adolescent Medicine, & provided consultation to rural Tribal Health Clinics in Washington regarding the complex medical-psychological disorders of high risk youth & adults.
Jan Glarum
Jan has extensive experience in the fields of Emergency Medical Services, fire, law enforcement, healthcare, public health, and emergency management, including response to federally declared disasters. He has an extensive background in planning, training, and exercises at all levels of government and serves as the Director of Emergency Management for Kitsap County. He received validation as a Department of Defense CBRNE Medical Subject Matter Expert in support of the SBCCOM initiative. He was a member of the Disaster Vulnerability Assessment Training and Exercise (DVATEX) program, a joint operation with the United States (US) Navy, to conduct assessments of Navy medical facilities worldwide, conduct disaster preparedness assessments, training and exercises. He has authored or co-authored several books on subjects including biosecurity and bioterrorism, emergency management, hospital HazMat response, Incident Command and Pandemic Planning and Response.
