Today, Federal Managers Association (FMA) National President Craig Carter urged all Senators to support and pass the Shutdown Fairness Act (S. 3012), sponsored by Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI). The bill, as amended, would immediately appropriate funds for federal agencies to pay all federal employees -- excepted and furloughed -- as well as military personnel during any lapse in government funding, both now and in the future.

"FMA members and feds across the country, are facing another missed paycheck, contemplating missed mortgage payments, how to pay for childcare, and taking drastic measures to take care of their families," Carter wrote. "The shutdown is seriously harming the morale of federal workers and the delivery of services. Some are at risk of losing their security clearances at no fault of their own. Communities, and your constituents, are hurting. Federal employees are being treated like pawns.
"There are no winners in a government shutdown. It is a lose-lose proposition, and bad governing. We at FMA strongly endorse the Shutdown Fairness Act, to begin a healing process and provide immediate relief for federal employees and their families – now and in the future."
We are hopeful the Senate will consider and pass this critical bill immediately.
